Actually, I don't think the nectar touches the top part. The bottom plastic part has the threaded female part that the glass tube screws into. So, the liquid is only exposed to the plastic and glass. The top metal part sits over the top of the bottom plastic part. If it does touch, it would be minimal. The metal appears to be tin which doesn't rust. This is a great feeder. Live a little and give it a try.
